A demonstration of VoIRC, a proof-of-concept voice chat client built in Nim that runs over unmodified IRC servers using a low-bitrate codec.

Proof of concept Linux x64 build + libcodec2/libsoundio prebuilts (YMMV): asie.pl/files/voirc_build2_linux_x64.zip (use F12 to toggle voice chat) Source code: github.com/asiekierka/voirc Temporary IRC channel: #voirc @ irc.asie.pl (If you just want the demo, go to ) Summary: Voice chat on unmodified IRC servers with a very low bitrate. This one I was thinking about for months now, and decided to implement as a a chance to try out the Nim programming language. (Also, the video was edited with laptop speakers, so the sound quality may be a bit off.) Ending music available at ericskiff.com/music/ Contact: kontakt@asie.pl

What people say. Recommended as a clever proof of concept for low-bitrate voice communication over standard IRC.
