David Guillot shares his team's experience replacing a two-year-old React UI with Django templates and htmx on a real-world SaaS product.
From React to htmx on a real-world SaaS product: we did it, and it's awesome! by David Guillot We took the plunge and replaced the 2-year-of-work React UI of our SaaS product with simple Django templates and htmx in a couple of months. We’d like to share our experience with you, with concrete indicators on various aspects, and convince your CTO!Why it's here

On “Ask HN: Where can one learn about boring web development?”
…inimum JS needed for a 'modern' app. You can find a community of likeminded people at HTMX-adjacent places like their Discord and Twitter. I've also been an advocate of this kind of 'primitive' dev style and it's great to see it gain some popularity. This recent talk from Djangocon "React to htmx on a real-world SaaS product" might be of interest: link to this video Ironically, the ultra-modern serverless platforms such as Cloudflare Workers have strict size constraints which is leading to a kind of back-to-basics approach that minimizes dependencies and bundle size. You can find a lot of small libraries for this at link . The latest JS framework to buzz here, Deno's Fresh, even touts "no JS is shipp…

On “Ask HN: What companies are embracing “HTML over the wire”?”
It depends on the usecases & application reqs. There are times when server-rendered content can have enormous benefits over a SPA. Check out this djangocon talk where a SaaS product moved from react to htmx. link to this video

On “Htmx is part of the GitHub Accelerator”
You can check this talk out link to this video I was thinking the same but in the video they specifically talk about faceted search and how they did it with htmx. For the second part you probably go with your own javascript or get away with hyperscript

I think you might find that relevant. (But in short, the author expressed being verry happy with switching to 'stack' you described) link to this video

On “ClojureScript serverless back-end on Cloudflare workers?”
>What exactly do you mean by "efficient" here?
JavaScript code on Cloudflare eliminates the need for extensive DevOps. You don't have to worry about scaling your cloud infrastructure; the code runs closer to your location, resulting in minimal latency.
When your application primarily involves CRUD operations (which I believe is the case for most apps), HTMX is an excellent fit. It allows you to create a highly interactive app using just HTML.
If that's not efficient, I don't know what is.
While I'd agree that for compute-heavy tasks, such as running engineering simulations, the JVM might be a better choice, I'd recommend checking out Cloudflare Workers for most use-cases.

Would this example be considered "trivial"? link to this video But also, you can mix things togheter. You can just use react based app 'embeded' into mpa for when you need that heavy lifting, and the same keep the content part of your app simple. "But why would i do that, if i'd already use react for some parts, why not every where". Becuase then it leads to abominations like reddit or facebook, where websites that are basically glorified text forums will use gigabytes of memory, have terrible UX, be slow and will crash your browser if you leave them open for too long.

On “Is htmx Just Another JavaScript Framework?”
…interface between the two sides and a natural place to divide responsibilities. Now, with HTMX, the divide is gone. The backend generates and swaps the parts of the UI, effectively driving the UI/UX directly. This cuts tons of JS out of the picture and couples (not necessarily in a bad way) backend and frontend. If you look at a popular YT video: link to this video , the result of HTMX rewrite was "JS guy left". So in larger teams switching from something like React to HTMX largely turns everything upside down, not just on technical level but on how people work and collaborate. It would be far easier for new teams and projects to go HTMX route, where they can start and keep hiring people who are fine…

> to do great stuff in the name of efficiency; for example, when browsing through some parts of the UI, it's now much more capable of just updating the part of the page that's changed Are you implying that this only doable with React? I mean just for the fun of it you can look at this video: link to this video

On “Is Web Forms still not an option in .net 6.0?”
Or, if you actually don't need a very advanced dynamic UI then just Razor Pages with Htmx works great.
Here's an example of a team using Htmx but with a Python backend.
