Intermediate. Assumes working knowledge.

David Nolen discusses using ClojureScript and React Native to build cross-platform apps, featuring a live-coding demo of REPL-driven development.

At Vouch.io, ClojureScript accelerates and radically simplifies the development of a new kind of digital key for one the largest automotive manufacturers in the world. With one language, we can wrangle iOS, Android, and copious amounts of custom native code, all without ever losing the ability to “jack-in” via a REPL to inject some jetfuel into the software development cycle. So while the rest of world migrates yet again to the been-there-done-that of mainstream typed programming, ClojureScript remains the secret weapon of those on the search for shipping simpler, better software faster. -------------------------------------------- Philly Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise (ETE) is hosted yearly by Chariot Solutions. What people say. Recommended for its excellent demonstration of the interactive, REPL-driven workflow when developing React Native apps with ClojureScript.

On “Hell Is Other REPLs”

A cool example: link to this video But better to just block 5 mins in your calendar and try it: link Don't play with this if you like hot-reload or hot-refresh features in react or jrebel or whatever. You will forever see these other approaches as lame in comparison... speaking from someone who was previously very happily ignorant, living my best life on the JRebel side of the fence.

On “Ask HN: How to start modern mobile first cross platform application in 2022”

David Nolen gave a relevant talk0 about the workflow they use to integrate Clojure and React Native for mobile and web development at the company vouch.io. You say "I'd like to reuse the frontend part of the web app", their methodology involves using Storybook.js to ensure their React components are truly stateless and may be re-used across environments. As I understand it they have released some of their mobile dev REPL tooling under an open-source license (Krell). Good luck! 0 link to this video

Krell with Storybook David Nolen's "ClojureScript in the Age of TypeScript" (link to this video is very inspiring but a bit light on details, particularly how to combine Storybook with a Clojurescript project. Anyone have any ideas how to structure such a project? I'm also unclear whether he was using React at all as he kept emphasising "no frameworks". I'm particularly interested in whether the Storybook part of the project could have been written in Clojurescript.

On “Six Years of Professional Clojure”

That's right. You typically would have your text editor/ide open, and the process you're developing would expose a repl port which your editor can connect to. As you edit the source code, that will automatically update the code running in the process you're debugging. See this demo of developing a ClojureScript React Native mobile app published yesterday: link to this video

What do you dislike about RN? Some are using ClojureScript to write RN apps, like the folks at vouch.io … here is a talk by David Nolan link to this video
