This can take a hit on the readability of your code, although super clever to look at (at least for me), so, it's not always recommended to do this optimization. There are better ways to optimize your code. As compilers have been evolving, they'll probably do a better job at optimizing these, and as programmers working in a team, readability is a lot more important than this (micro) optimization.
