Grab your tickets now: kotl.in/kotlinconf25 Google Workspace has been working on a large migration from a Java-oriented multiplatform foundation to Kotlin Multiplatform. The primary drivers for this migration are to take better advantage of Kotlin, its ecosystem, and the capabilities of Kotlin Multiplatform (e.g. native interop & runtime performance). This session will share the current state of the migration and the lessons learned. #kotlin #kotlinconfWhy it's here

All Kotlin talks of 2024 sorted by popularity
Hi r/Kotlin! As part of Tech Talks Weekly, I've compiled a complete list of all Kotlin talks of 2024 and ordered it by the view count. The list contains 100 talks presented at (almost) all dev conferences this year.
There's lots of really good content around new language features, coroutines, Functional Programming, Kotlin Notebooks and Dataframes and much more, so I highly recommend going thorugh the entire list. Let me know what you think!

On “Kotlin Multi-platform (KMP) vs. Flutter? Help me choose the right framework for cross-platform development”
…in 2016. It's 8 years later. If Google Earth is the big example*, well. I don't know what the downloads are, but on the iOS app store, there are 40k reviews. By way of comparison, Google Docs has ~2.4m and Google Drive ~6.5m. 2 orders of magnitude.
Google did not build KMP, but the Workspace team is doing a ton of work to get KMP into those apps: link to this video
Flutter is fine tech, but Google doesn't use it themselves in a meaningful way. Certainly not at the scale to justify continuing to fully support the whole platform. The point I'm making is when evaluating platforms, the liklihood that the major developer will continue to support them is a factor of risk.

On “Kotlin Ecosystem AMA – December 11 (3–7 pm CET)”
Currently, there are no plans to do something like that, but at some point, some of our colleagues did a special course at the university about how the Kotlin compiler works inside.
Maybe in the future, someone from the Kotlin Team will be brave enough to repeat this experience and record the set of lectures.
In the meantime, I can recommend watching some of the KotlinConf recordings. I will name a few:
* The Life and Death of a Kotlin Native Object | Troels Lund
* K2 Compiler plugins by Mikhail Glukhikh
* Kotlin Multiplatform in Google Workspace | Jason Parachoniak
* Kotlin Multiplatform Libraries Evolution | Stanislav Erokhin
