James Smith explains the concept of finite-state machines and sequential logic with a practical example.

If you appreciated this video, please consider supporting me! buymeacoffee.com/JamesSmith patreon.com/JamesSmithDigitalEngineering I originally uploaded this video for the benefit of my ERS 220 class at University of Pretoria who seemed to be struggling a bit with the concept of a finite-state machine, though I hope it will be helpful to anyone who is interested. If there are questions or something which remains unclear, please post them in the comments and I'll try and respond within a reasonable amount of time.

What people say. Recommended as a helpful resource for learning about finite state machines in the context of FPGA basics.

On “FPGA basics”

I would learn verilog first, you’ll also need to find a board and software. There’s some free versions of quartus and it’s good for learning, you can also draw out block diagrams and logic gates with it. First learn logic gates and Boolean algebra Here’s some info on logic gates and truth tables link to this video link to this video I would also learn about finite state machines link to this video Here’s an intel tutorial to on verilog link to this video Board wise I like the cyclone II, pretty good for beginners and around $80 - $150 on eBay Also here’s a list of cheap FPGAs https://www.reddit.com/r/FPGA/comments/4ui3z3/list_of_cheapest_fpga_development_boards/ Here are some possible projects you could attempt https://www.f…
