Robert C. Martin introduces the foundational principles of clean code and argues that software craftsmanship is an ethical and professional responsibility.

↓↓ ENGLISH DESCRIPTION ↓↓ "Coding Better World Together" is a set of master lessons from the famous Uncle Bob (Robert Cecil Martin), where he gives us a broad vision of the importance and future of Software in today's society. In this first lesson, Uncle Bob demonstrates the need to write a clean code and establishes the bases to achieve it, being these bases of a social and scientific nature. Making it clear that the future of programming is based on an ethical and polite code. On “I don't read web articles anymore, but I read books”

That's probably great as well, but I'm talking about searching for a book author. Just for example Clean Code is a great book, but the presentation is so much better: link to this video

…at some companies, but it has nothing to do with agile / scrum, but letting non-tech people who love confrontation take over engineering leadership from engineers who are afraid of confrontation (which sounds like the disaster it is). Robert Martin (one of the creators of the agile manifesto) explains it quite well in ,,Clean Code'' presentation: link to this video The whole presentation should be a must watch by all engineers so that they understand what _is_ agile to the point when they know it better than product / project managers / non-tech people. It's hard to get a better description than the original source, and no non-tech person has authority to override the real agile at that point.…

On “The technical interview is an ego trip”

I think "caring" is probably the only one that separates the best from the rest. Reminds me of this: link to this video If we care as a developer, we write better code, learn things and listen to our team, customers.

On “Post Office scandal victims in Scotland have convictions quashed”

…ot. It worries me even more that a lot of computer programmers, systems engineers, et al, don't understand how their code affects others in bad and unintended ways, and why testing matters so much. Uncle Bob, as divisive as he is, hits this nail on the head with a depleted uranium sledgehammer4 (19:47-24:33). 1 link 2 link 3 link 4 link to this video…

On “Ask HN: Should we bring software dev in-house?”

If you're going to do this I recommend you at least take these things at heart: Why do developers slow down > link to this video 80% of developers are unhappy. The problem is not AI, nor is coding > link What you're looking at is starting greenfield development. This always starts in the same way: 'we need to deliver functionality quickly because management wants results'. This always leads to the same issue, where code quality is ignored for sake of delivering functionality, which then leads to development slowing down and both management and devs becoming unhappy. If you want to build something for the long term, I'd recommend starting slow. Get some experienced freelance devs where you do thorough…

On “Cyberattack on vehicle breathalyzer company leaves drivers stranded in the US”

…s software 'engineers' collectively agree to, and rigorously follow to avoid "killing 10,000 people with a little software failure". If you think you can make a better 'Clean Code', do so! That's the whole point about ethics debates. But! You need to proffer an alternative and prosecute why your version is better than Clean Code. 1 (19:47-24:33) link to this video…

On “Is it better to use the JSDoc return type or TypeScript return type?”

There are use cases for both. However, i prefer code that speaks for itself and to reserve comments for warnings, to note obscure/unexpected behaviors, or to express things that need to be addressed, but aren't. I've found that when there's too much documentation, it gets ignored and when I'm reading clean code, I don't need much documentation. Check out Uncle Bob's clean code video series. This completely changed how I document and write code. link to this video

On “How to deal with going back to JavaScript?”

The Mindset, that refactoring slows you down is actually very wrong. We developers know that, but we sometimes have a hard time to communicate it to our managers. What me helpes a lot with this was watching Uncle Bobs Clean Code series on YouTube. Yes the full 8h! link to this video

On “My boss asks me to stop writing small functions and do everything in the same loop”

Your boss apparently has never heard of Unit Tests. You can write Unit Tests for small functions and thus test the correctness of every function separately. You cannot do that with a big loop that does lots of things, as all you will end up is the information, that the end result was wrong but not where in the loop the mistake is. If you test all functions separately, you will find this one function that does it wrong. If the functions are really small, you can even theoretically proof their correctness but that will become close to impossible with big loops as the complexity soon makes this approach impractical. Writing small functions is a pain because it forces you to move into each sm…
