Kevin Goldsmith describes how Spotify structures its engineering teams and microservices architecture to enable autonomous development.

This presentation was recorded at GOTO Berlin 2015. #gotocon #gotober gotober.com Kevin Goldsmith - Vice President, Engineering at Spotify ABSTRACT The software industry used to be all about building monoliths: monolithic applications and services, with bing-bang product releasees. All that has now changed [...] Download slides and read the full abstract here: gotocon.com/berlin-2015/presentation/Microservices%20@%20Spo… RECOMMENDED BOOKS Sam Newman • Monolith to Microservices • amzn.to/2Nml96E Sam Newman • Building Microservices • amzn.to/3dMPbOs Ronnie Mitra & Irakli Nadareishvili • Microservices: Up and Running• amzn.to/3c4HmmL Mitra, Nadareishvili, McLarty & Amundsen • Microservice Architecture • amzn.to/3fVNAb0 Chris Richardson • Microservices Patterns • amzn.to/2SOnQ7h Adam Bellemare • Building Event-Driven Microservices • amzn.to/3yoa7TZ Dave Farley • Continuous Delivery Pipelines • amzn.to/3hjiE51 twitter.com/GOTOcon linkedin.com/company/goto- instagram.com/goto_con facebook.com/GOTOConferences #Microservices #BreakingUpMonoliths #SoftwareArchitecture #KevinGoldsmith CHANNEL MEMBERSHIP BONUS Join this channel to get early access to videos & other perks: youtube.com/channel/UCs_tLP3AiwYKwdUHpltJPuA/join Looking for a unique learning experience? On “What is a microservice? And how to start with it in Node.js?”

A micro-service is just an application design pattern where you split a big and complex application into small and single-purpose applications. Using NodeJS or any other language doesn't have anything to do with it. You could build a microservice architecture in assembly if you want to. There are many advantages in using micro services: You can use different languages and technology for each service, it's easier and cheaper to scale, each service are much simpler than one complex application and thus new incomers can understand each piece very fast. I recommend you this talk about microservices usage at Spotify. It helped me a lot when i began: link to this video
