What people say. Recommended as an excellent, accessible introduction to CPU microarchitecture and hardware-level performance.

On “I need CPU micro architecture resources.”

This 45 minute lecture is a great introduction: link to this video After that, I'm afraid you'd have to get into the big scary books. That is, if you want a rather complete understanding.

On “Optimisation and Performance”

If you want a book specifically, I can recommend "Computer Architecture: A Quantitative Approach". It has a chapter specifically on optimization. If you're okay with videos, these two recent videos are quite good: link to this video link to this video Also, this series of blog posts is amazing in regards to showing "how deep the rabbit hole goes": https://fgiesen.wordpress.com/2013/02/17/optimizing-sw-occlusion-culling-index/ edit: for an introduction to SIMD, there's http://const.me/articles/simd/simd.pdf

On “Assembler+Vulkan Game Engine”

The short version is that for both OpenGL and Vulkan, there is a C function you use to request from the GPU driver pointers to the rest of the C functions. If want an overview of what happens under that, read through https://fgiesen.wordpress.com/2011/07/09/a-trip-through-the-graphics-pipeline-2011-index/ But first, there is a more important article from the same guy that is a pre-req: https://fgiesen.wordpress.com/2016/02/05/smart/ If you want to get deep into CPUs, you'd be hard-pressed to do better than watching Casey Muratori lecture on their internals for hours and hours: part 1 , part 2 , part 3
