Bob Campbell and Jeff Sirois describe how Nintendo transitioned to using Clang, LLVM, and open-source libraries for the Nintendo Switch developer toolchain.

llvm.org/devmtg/2018-10/ — Developer Toolchain for the Nintendo Switch - Bob Campbell & Jeff Sirois Slides: — Nintendo Switch was developed using Clang/LLVM for the developer tools and C++ libraries. We describe how we converted from using almost exclusively proprietary tools and libraries to open tools and libraries. We’ll also describe our process for maintaining our out-of-tree toolchain and what we’d like to improve. We started with Clang, binutils, and LLVM C++ libraries (libc++, libc++abi) and other open libraries. We will also describe our progress in transitioning to LLD and other LLVM binutils equivalents. Additionally, we will share some of our performance results using LLD and LTO. Finally, we’ll discuss some of the areas that are important to our developers moving forward. — Videos Filmed & Edited by Bash Films: BashFilms.com

…with Vulkan support. So even if it’s a very NDA-protected SDK, as it’s just another LLVM target it allows to be quite creative. By the way, I am not under NDA, this is information Nintendo have disclosed at the 2018 LLVM developers meeting, which is probably the only time ever they talked a little bit about what’s going on to the technical public. link to this video (It’s funny how even the presenter themselves aren’t sure what they are allowed to talk about) I can’t speak for the others, but I’d also expect Microsoft to have relatively PC-like tooling (although this is just an expectation).…
