Christian Clausen presents a systematic and iterative approach to refactoring and managing technical debt by limiting method length.

This presentation was recorded at GOTO Copenhagen 2022. #GOTOcon #GOTOcph gotocph.com Christian Clausen - Author of "Five Lines of Code" & CEO & Founder of Mistware @thedrlambda8148 ABSTRACT As an experienced Tech Lead and Technical Agile Coach, I see many teams struggle with basic software hygiene such as refactoring and testing. The lack of these fundamental practices leads to snowballing friction in delivering value to users. However, many teams have no ideas where or how to start, and how to create the time in their days to undertake this. In this talk I will go through a simple, systematic, and iterative approach to refactoring, that will help you get started getting your technical debt under control. On “The Five Lines of Code Principle: Why Less is More in Programming”

Thank you all for commenting. I highly recommend you all to please watch Five Lines of Code • Christian Clausen • GOTO 2022 — YouTube reference video. I agree sometimes it is difficult to write code within 5 lines but the five lines of code principle is not a strict rule you can adjust accordingly. If you want to see a real-life example please visit Rails GitHub Repository. The average all-method length is between 5~10 lines. This article example is simple but there is a lot more you can do using this principle. That's why I recommend you all to please watch the `GOTO Conference Video`, Christian Clausen explains it very well.
