AntVenom explains the technical reasons behind Minecraft's Far Lands, exploring how floating-point precision limits and overflow bugs affect world generation.

» Bisect Minecraft Servers 25% Off 1st Month! - bisecthosting.com/antvenom This is the deepest dive into the Minecraft Far Lands I've ever done! ;) » Experiments Playlist - youtube.com/playlist?list=PLR50dP3MW9ZW8FdncbqReMHbWgVPmUHF4 The Far Lands are a phenomenon of Minecraft world generation that occur 12 and a half million blocks away from spawn. There's the Minecraft Far Lands, the Minecraft Farther Lands, the Minecraft Fartherer Lands... and the Minecraft Farthest Lands, along with corner variations for all of them, and they all occur for distinctly different, but similar reasons. Today, we're gonna check them out! What people say. Recommended as an interesting exploration of how floating-point precision limits and coordinate overflows manifest as world generation bugs in Minecraft.

On “What is a comp science area you believe does not get as much attention as it deserves?”

Agreed. When a discussion about "we want to make a variant of Minecraft", everyone was going after the graphics, not how Minecraft works. They think a certain kind of video game graphics needs all of this processing behind it, but graphics are just a visualization of what's on silicon Minecraft is a feat of computer science. The surface area of a regular Minecraft world is larger than Earth's. It sounds like the limit was place solely to prevent bugs; there's a chance Mojang could expand the world size. There's actually a good reason because Minecraft used to have The Far Lands, which actually was a pretty cool bug, but yeah. With these kind-of concepts, and you had the know-how, you co…
