Dan Yasny discusses strategies for migrating large datasets to Cassandra or ScyllaDB clusters without downtime.

Once data is in a database, it stays there forever, right? Think again! In today's fast-paced environments, your traditional SQL deployment might become too constrained and you’ll need to move the data to a more scalable NoSQL solution. Or you might want to move data to a different region, a different cloud, or even different versions of the same product. That means data migration! But transferring large swaths of data between databases is not easy. And migrating data is a challenge, especially if your infrastructure must keep working without downtime. Join us in this webinar to hear Dan Yasny, Field Engineer at ScyllaDB, discuss strategies commonly used for migrating data to and from a Cassandra or ScyllaDB cluster. When can you just copy the existing files? When do you have to read the data from a source and write to the destination? What are the caveats? You will learn: - How to use the Scylla Migrator — a Spark tool that can efficiently move data between Cassandra and Scylla clusters - When you can just copy the existing files around, and how to do it - Other migration strategies are and when to use them 🎥 Sign up for upcoming webinars or browse through our library of on-demand recordings here: scylladb.com/resources/webinars/

On “Scylla datacenter and Cassandra datacenter in same cluster”

You can not have an heterogeneous cluster with C* and Scylla nodes on the same cluster. Create a separate scylla cluster, create the schema, change the app to do double writes (to both clusters) and then migrate the C* historical data to Scylla. There are multiple ways to migrate the data. This should help: link to this video No downtime, no problem there are options for that too.
