On “I'm looking for guides and resources on testing complicated things”
I had been struggling with this very topic of test-driving non-trivial, real-world, complex systems with side-effects and the following presentations helped me understand what I was dealing with and how to properly architecture such systems so that they’re easy to test, maintain, and scale (not necessarily Clojure-specific but highly applicable):
Functional Core, Imperative Shell (Gary Bernhardt)
Boundaries (Gary Bernhardt)
TDD, Where Did It All Go Wrong (Ian Cooper)
The Clean Architecture (Ian Cooper)
Alistair in the "Hexagone" 1/3 (Alistair Cockburn)
Alistair in the “Hexagone” 2/3 (Alistair Cockburn)
Alistair in the “Hexagone” 3/3 (Alistair Cockburn)
