Learn how to write initial boot code and a multiboot2 header for a 64-bit x86 operating system kernel.

In this series, we'll write our own 64-bit x86 operating system kernel from scratch, which will be multiboot2-compliant. In future episodes we might expand out to other architectures and bootloaders. In this first episode, we write our initial boot code and also include a multiboot2 header so that it can be understood by bootloaders. This operating system will be primarily written in C, but we'll need some assembly as well for any of the hardware-specific code. All the code is available on GitHub: github.com/davidcallanan/yt-os-series/tree/ep1 Thanks to top Patreon supporters Helge Sverre Hessevik Liseth and Kaas at the time of uploading this video! On “OS from tutorial or Entirely by myself ”

Sure thing! 1. https://wiki.osdev.org/ - Pretty much the OSdev bible IMO 2. link to this video - Good series on OS dev the primary one I used. YouTube! In addition to the one I linked, many videos follow similar steps and it's helpful to see the methods across the board. Some use GRUB as a bootloader while others show you how code your own from scratch. My advice? Watch them all! It's helpful to see the different methods and allows you to see the "why" rather than just "how"

…o) so you should at least be familiar with the concepts before actually jumping in to the design. I would say those 2 are crucial before you begin. After that you can check a tutorial and slowly go at it. Plenty of comments here have posted good resources. If you want some quick introduction to have an idea of what to expect, checkout this video: link to this video…

On “Where to learn?”

Use ChatGPT, read through existing operating system code on github (there is even plenty of leaked Windows OS code available, if you like that), watch youtube videos of people writing bootloaders, etc. A few examples: [video [video link to this video
