A demonstration of a drive.ai autonomous vehicle navigating heavy rain, glare, and busy intersections in Mountain View without human intervention.

A fully autonomous drive on a rainy night on the streets of Mountain View, CA. Learn more or join our team at drive.ai/ Some highlights about the video: • Fully autonomous driving during the entire video. No human intervention. • Starting from heavy downpour. • Narrow street with parked cars and glare from oncoming traffic. • Busy 4-way stop sign and a car (possibly illegally) cutting in front of the Drive.ai car. • Broken red light at intersection • Night driving with confusing reflections from the wet ground. What people say. Shared as an impressive early demonstration of level four autonomous driving under challenging wet weather and night conditions.

On “Alphabet claims Uber was hiding the self-driving tech that it allegedly copied”

Waymo has been testing up around Lake Tahoe in the snow, and in Arizona to deal with dust, and in Washington to deal with rain. Ford and GM are both testing in Michigan. Here's Drive.ai demoing L4 in a downpour at night (really impressive): link to this video But in general terms it's logical to get everything working well in optimal conditions before moving on to challenging weather. I don't think they consider any of this stuff to be unsolvable, short of maybe a whiteout blizzard, but, you know, first things first.

…in wet weather, but not this kind of heavy rain, where a promise of self-driving technology saving lives and property can be more assuredly realized. If anyone in the field knows of one of the contenders already working on training in such poor conditions, then please post a link to a demo if one is available. 1 link 2 link 3 link 4 link to this video…
