Leeren explains how to configure native Vim as a fully integrated IDE without relying on external plugins.

Learn how to transform bare-metal Vim to a 🔥 fully integrated IDE 🔥 for any language of your choice by following this 7-step hands-on process 🤙 📔 View the Vim presentation slides: bit.ly/3333acP This talk was presented as port of Vim's first virtual Vim conference (vimconf.live), and goes over howe can natively 🛠️ configure 🛠️ Vim to do everything we'd expect from a typical IDE, including seamless file navigation, instantaneous symbol lookups, and smooth build-and-edit workflows. The goal of this is to show you how you can tailor Vim to work for any language without requiring external plugin support, so that you can become a better Vim editor and make smarter decisions about what optimizations you really need as a plugin versus those already on the table. We'll be exploring the following, each with practical demos to follow along: Intro Initializing a vimrc The runtimepath and formatting Using Vim's :path to instantly find files Include-search, Vim's most powerful feature Tags Compiler Support Portability Which step did you enjoy watching the most? What topics do you want me to cover? I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback in the comments section! 🎉 Contact Me: instagram.com/leerenchang/ facebook.com/leerenchang twitter.com/leeren Subscribe: youtube.com/c/leerentalks #vim #vimconf

So, I want to share with the rest of you and collect feedback on this approach. Second, if you haven't read Instant grep + quickfix gist by u/-romainl- , you should read it. The goal was to smooth out some rough edges around `:h :grep`, namely making it more performant. However, ... ## The Problem `:h system()` still blocks vim and the hang is noticeable on large projects (e.g. kubernetes). ## The Solution **TLDR: vim-dispatch + custom compiler settings** ##…

I was trying to improve the include-search by using python's AST module, basically giving me a more robust identification of the import statements. Inspired by this answer: https://stackoverflow.com/a/44988778 Here's my python function that collects all imported module names. It is located in .vim/after/ftplugin: https://pastebin.com/ERf8WL7p And here's my python.vim: https://pastebin.com/HWrLWGKU I am a bit confused about include & includeexpr. In Leeren's vid, you see him modifying the include string, globbing it, and ret…
