An introduction and live demonstration of Omni, showing how to provision and manage Kubernetes clusters across bare metal and edge locations.

A quick intro to Omni, the SaaS that makes Kubernetes on bare metal and edge easier than a public cloud. See a cluster created from attendees at TalosCon with nodes joining from around the world.

Why it's here

What people say. Recommended for demonstrating how Talos Linux and Omni handle multi-location clusters and secure node connectivity via KubeSpan.

Also recommend checking out talos for this use case. Bonus is you can utilize their Omni platform if managing all the edge nodes becomes too much of a hassle. From the last virtual taloscon, talos on edge in an EV charge network. link to this video Talos's immutable, API-driven design encourages good iMac principles so that all the edge nodes will run the same without messy ssh quick configs Omni launch link to this video

One of the biggest problems with clusters stretching between data centers and providers is reliable connectivity. There’s a KubeSpan feature of talos that creates wireguard connections between nodes to give more reliability and it’s absolutely possible to create nodes in different locations. You can see a demo of it from the Omni launch last year (at 5:20) link to this video where we created a cluster that spanned the world. Should you run this for production? Probably not. But lower latency locations will perform much better
