What people say. Highly recommended as the go-to video series for learning how to build a game engine from scratch.

On “how working game engines?”

Start by making a renderer. Cherno's game engine series Chili's DirectX tutorial Once you can draw sprites and triangles on the screen, come back here and we'll tell you the next steps.

On “Does anyone have any tutorials or references on how to make a 3d game engine?”

link to this video Good luck :D But this requires you to have at least a basic knowledge about grapic API's. If you dont have that, You better go with https://learnopengl.com/ and stick to small goals ;)

On “Any good "make your game engine" tutorials?”

You can start by The Cherno playlist about game engine, but you must have in mind some things: - You may have some different decisions about some things - Hazel(the final name of this engine) is an extremely generic engine, so some topics of this tutorial won't be needed if you are doing a specific engine. Altough this tutorial use GLFW, this tutorial series is in a certain way agnostic of frameworks/libraries, so you can do everything with SDL.

On “c++ beginner”

The Cherno's YT series gives you a really solid foundation, and from there I think his game engine or openGL series is a great way of specializing. [video C++ [video openGL [video Game Engine good luck!

On “How are the game engine editors made?”

If you want to learn how to do it, please watch The Chernos Game Engine Series he started doing it 2 years ago and he is still continuing actively. He is currently doing 3D Shadows, the engine is similar to UE and Unity. There are already 100 episodes and, as said, he still makes new ones. He was a Game Engine Dev for big studios and he explains things well.

On “Recently Overhauled my Engine's Editor UI. What do you think? I also added a picture of the original UI at the end. ”

Oh, I use the EnTT ECS library for my components. I originally created this engine following the Cherno's game engine series. My implementation still looks pretty similar to his since I haven't had a big reason to change it. As far as managing components in the UI, I have custom UI widgets written inside my Engine code that are initialized as static. My main update loop inspects the active entity and updates the widget data. That function also calls the rendering functions for the widget. I hope I answered your question! On “New to Game Engine Development! Would love some pointers!”

[video Check out Cherno's game engine series. He takes you step by step through building a minimalistic 2D engine in C++, with proper cpp17 standards. The issue is that the tooling around Cpp sucks, and people much prefer using a language like Rust these days thanks to the amazing compiler (which even flags dead code!). The benefit of Rust is that it is \~99% of cpp speed, while compiling much faster than cpp (unless you've properly set up cpp incremental compiles, and are using some third party build system like Ninja or Meson). Cpp17 is also missing out on a lot of features such as modules, coroutines etc. In fact, compile-time reflection is not even available until Cpp26, so I muc…
