Ashley Mills explains C pointers, dereferencing, address-of operators, and how they relate to arrays.

In this part we discuss pointers, how to de-reference them, and how to obtain a pointer to a variable by taking it's address. We also discuss pointers and array indexing, and two dimensional arrays.

This video from Ashley Mills online C programming series is one of the better overviews I’ve come across: link to this video See also video #16 in the series for a nice introduction to function pointers.

On “Learning pointers”

The first time I saw pointers I thought a very short moment, do I really need them, because I can write small programs without pointers. But everywhere I read about C I saw \* and &, so pointers must have some useful properties. Take the fight and for me it longer than I expected, but it's worth it. When pointers finally become natural to use you will sense that pointers will give you programming superpower. Try this video with with Ashley Mills: [video
