Venkat Subramaniam delivers an entertaining and insightful presentation on why developers should adopt Scala over Java.

This Indian guy is mega LOL! @ "It's already time for a coffee break. I am tired!" :D @ "That's called IDE vomit!" :D @ "You don't need to be working hard to do stupid things!" :D No idea who this is (pls. comment), would deserve credits.

What people say. Recommended as a classic, highly entertaining talk that convinces Java developers to explore Scala.

On “Considering learning Scala”

Once you learn the cool bits of Scala, you might not want to go back to plain Java (I know I don't). It might be better to learn Java as-is to learn the basics of imperative-style programming (until J8, if they deliver), then use Scala to transition into more functional-style stuff. Odersky can be kinda dry and hard to understand sometimes (but that's just me), I read this book not long ago http://pragprog.com/book/vspcon/programming-concurrency-on-the-jvm and learned that the author actually teaches Scala, it seems for Java people...he definitely more entertaining. Once again, your results may vary... link to this video
