David Brailsford explains the concept of entropy in computer science and how it defines the limits of data compression.

What's the absolute minimum you can compress data to? - Entropy conjures up visions of chemistry and physics, but how does it apply to binary codes and computer science? Professor David Brailsford continues his discussion of compression. Addendum: the formula at is the "weighted average bits for that state" rather than the total number of bits - (log^2) Original Professor Brailsford film on compression: youtu.be/Lto-ajuqW3w Professor Brailsford on Error Detection: youtu.be/-15nx57tbfc facebook.com/computerphile twitter.com/computer_phile This video was filmed and edited by Sean Riley. After stumbling upon a computerphile series where Professor David Brailsford is interviewed, I have to disagree. The consecutive talks about compression, entropy in compression, error correction, compression in text, and compression meets probability talk about a lot of fascinating complex topics. It at least entertained me the past half hour.
