A comparison of the Jai and Odin systems programming languages, exploring overloading, multiline strings, and code examples.
Code: github.com/contextfreecode/jai-comparisons Thanks much to Gideon (twitter.com/Gidcheeen) for adding me to the Jai beta! Also to Jonathan and Bill for their great work! Also to each for putting up with me covering their work, and not necessarily in ways they'd individually prefer. * Jai's name isn't actually officially Jai. On “Georgia Tech professor's thoughts on C/C++ alternatives”
Seems like the language that would best meet what Aaron (YouTube) is looking for is Odin. He kind of alluded to it in his video. I've had my eye on it, because both it and Vlang are offshoots of Go (and also C alternatives), that have various attractive features.
He appears to be an admirer of Jai, but it's not released to the public, and who knows when that will be. There are some references that Jai might come out in 2025, but nothing is clear or substantiated. So what to do if the public release date is pushed back further, like 2026 or beyond?
Odin pretty much snatched the good ideas and concepts of Jai, and beat them to the punch in terms of public release and presenting it to busin…

On “Suggest an interesting language for me to try out, that I can use for 2D Games. Something that I might not have considered, or is not particularly well known.”
There has been a lot of hype about the Jai programming language (for game development), but another language that has been heavily influenced by it (some may feel some kind of way about that) and has a lot of similar syntax and concepts is Odin. Here is a blow by blow comparison, Jai vs Odin.
While Jai still isn't available to the public, Odin is. In fact, it could be argued that Odin has taken Jai's thunder. Odin is here today, and open to the public.
