Jarrod Overson demonstrates how to deploy Node.js applications to Google Cloud Functions using both the web console and the gcloud CLI.

This tutorial runs through the Google Cloud console UI and the gcloud command line interface to show you how to get started using node.js on Google Cloud Functions. I also show how to wire up a function to Cloud Pubsub with an example using Google Cloud Scheduler. Useful links: Google Cloud Functions home: cloud.google.com/functions/ Pubsub docs: cloud.google.com/pubsub/docs/ gcloud sdk: cloud.google.com/sdk/ nvm: github.com/creationix/nvm

What people say. Recommended as a practical guide for setting up periodic tasks using Google Cloud Functions and Cloud Scheduler.

On “Where should I host my node project?”

Use Google Cloud Functions with Google Scheduler. Scheduler is a cron task service on the Google Platform, and you can use it to send a GET request to your Cloud Function endpoint. I'm suggesting Cloud Function over Cloud Run because it just sounds like you need to run this periodically on command, not continuously serving requests. If this is not the case, then I agree that Cloud Run is the way to go. EDIT: edited original message for better clarity. Here's a video walking through what I proposed. It's a little older and you don't have to use the SDK, but the information is still pretty acurate. link to this video
