Alex Ziskind goes undercover on Stack Overflow to investigate why the platform is often perceived as toxic and unfriendly to beginners.

I went undercover to see if I can get a real sense of how toxic Stack Overflow can be. SO is a place where most developers go to get their issues solved, but only a small percentage of them actually post. Let's see why. #stackoverflow #softwaredevelopment #programming ▶️ Stack Overflow bans ChatGPT - youtu.be/-_hv3P2fyBo ▶️ Visual Studio 2022 on M1 Max | First Look - youtu.be/Ad39jwkBLnk ▶️ My Parallels 17 first impressions | Windows 11 on a Mac - youtu.be/Mw2of0OEJJ8 ▶️ M1 MacBook Air Running Visual Studio and Xamarin for Mac - youtu.be/bH1MV1U3I28 💻NativeScript training courses — nativescripting.com (Take 15% off any premium NativeScript course by using the coupon code YT2020) 👕👚iScriptNative Gear - nuvio.us/isn — — — — — — — — — ❤️ SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL 📺 Click here to subscribe: youtube.com/c/alexanderziskind — — — — — — — — — 🏫 FREE COURSES NativeScript Core Getting Started Guide (Free Course) - nativescripting.com/course/nativescript-core-getting-started… NativeScript with Angular Getting Started Guide (Free Course) - nativescripting.com/course/nativescript-with-angular-getting… Upgrading Cordova Applications to NativeScript (Free Course) - nativescripting.com/course/upgrading-cordova-applications-to… — — — — — — — — — 📱LET'S CONNECT ON SOCIAL MEDIA ALEX ON TWITTER: twitter.com/digitalix

What people say. Recommended as an insightful look into the cultural and gamification issues that contribute to toxicity on Stack Overflow.

On “Stack Overflow must change its attitude towards users.”

I think it's a very interesting case of how social psychology underlies our human behavior. Furthermore, it seems like toxicity is built into Stack Overflow, and being friendly is systematically discouraged, even though some manage to be civil and friendly. The amount and potency of unfriendliness appear to be higher, or so it seems. I, among others, also believe that gamification is partially to blame. Let's hope Stack Overflow gets its act together soon
