Douglas Crockford explains programming language syntax and demonstrates Pratt parsing, a top-down operator precedence parsing technique.

This presentation was recorded at GOTO Aarhus 2013 gotocon.com Douglas Crockford - JSON Creator & Yahoo! JS Architect ABSTRACT Much of programming language design is dictated by fashion. As a consequence, opinions about programming languages tend to be strong, shallow, and deeply emotional. The best languages are brilliant and sadly unfashionable. But we love our stylish, over-rated syntax, and this talk presents an amazing parsing technique that helps achieve it. twitter.com/gotocon facebook.com/GOTOConference gotocon.com Looking for a unique learning experience? On “How does Pratt Parsing work?”

If you want a good video that describes this, Douglas Crockford did a solid job in this talk (parsing starts at 19:30 ish). I'd listen to the whole talk though, its very good. Here is the supplementary article for it.
