Jason Scott shares the history of software piracy and the dramatic, often hilarious feuds between rival warez groups over three decades.

Jason Scott - You're Stealing It Wrong! 30 Years of Inter-Pirate Battles Historian Jason Scott walks through the many-years story of software piracy and touches on the tired debates before going into a completely different direction - the interesting, informative, hilarious and occasionally obscene world of inter-pirate-group battles. A multi-media extravaganza of threats, CSI-level accusations and evidence trails, decades of insider lingo, and demonstrations of how the more things change, the more they still have to keep their ratios up. Jason Scott is a computer historian and proprietor of TEXTFILES.COM, a collection of computer history. This is a pretty good pairing, actually. He also creates documentaries on computer history and attends and speaks at conventions like DEFCON, making computer history. If you see him at DEFCON the choice is clear: talk to him about his cat. …lved into the demoscene3. > the only way to access a BBS was through a terminal emulator If you were feeling adventurous, RIPscrip4 was a fun alternative. [Unfortunately, my internet connection is currently crapping itself (ADSL bouncing up and down every 30s, massive packet loss), so I'm gong to have to watch this video later.] 1 link 2 link to this video 3 I've been really impressed with several recent prods: link link link 4 link…

Reminds me of this presentation by Jason Scott, examples around the 24:00 min mark: link to this video Jason has a similar ( maybe the same ? ) Defcon talk, in which the goons apparently mis-schedule something and he starts in, is told someone else is going to present, and just power-speeds through the whole presentation in 3 minutes while the other presenter gets ready. I can't find that video though.
