Philipp Dahlinger explains how he designed and built a working CPU and operating system inside the game Factorio.

This is an English translation of a talk I gave at the 39th Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg. If you understand German, please check out the original recording of the talk: German 39c3 talk: youtube.com/watch?v=FLUeSurkMOI&t=14s I explain my CPU design and how CPUs work in general. In the last 10 minutes, I show how you can run the CPU in your Factorio game and give some more details about the hardware. Check out the repository containing the game save and the code for the assembler: Main repository: github.com/PhilippDahlinger/byte_factory

On “How do I build a microcontroller at home”

Maybe in Factorio link to this video To be honest. Start with an emulation software (or by using a fpga). Like it is mentioned in the youtube video, there is a lot you need to consider and you will learn a lot by doing mistakes. But you need to have fun, if you want to build some hardware ignore me, since than it is a bad advice.
