Steven Schveighoffer explains how D's powerful generative code capabilities make writing custom serializers easy and efficient.

Slides available at dconf.org/2019/talks/schveighoffer.html. Why is it that every time I write some project in D, I end up writing a serializer? I believe the reason lies in the ease with which you can use D to write generative code. It comes down to the fundamental truth that writing code that rids you of boilerplate is not only fun and satisfying, but when it’s easy, you feel foolish not to do it! With D, teaching the compiler how to write code is easier than with any other language I know, and everyone should be doing it.
