ThePrimeagen compares the performance, memory usage, and development experience of building HTTP servers in Go, Rust, and TypeScript.

This represents the last couple months of twitches work building up and comparing the servers. I was completely shocked by the results of all this. HOW COULD GO DO ME LIKE THIS??? GET THE HELL IN THE START UP ALREADY Discord for the degens Twitch for the alpha chads JS Sucks? Yes it does, it sucks so much that I made a hoodie (i only made 100 of them, so supply limited) shop.theprimeagen.tv ### The Project All three videos are on yt and the repository is github.com/ThePrimeagen/tyrone-biggums ### Support If you wish to support, please consider sponsoring me on Github, or giving me that SWEET twitch sub! …call it an MVP publicly because why would you. I know because I've worked at successful companies with MRR in the millions that did this. You are aware of the tech debt and at some point you fix it. > Check these legendary videos which literally compares GO vs Node.js in place where Node.js is strong at i.e. IO and see how far it falls behind GO link to this video and link to this video Like I said, in raw performance Go is gonna beat Node/JS any day, that's not the case I'm making, those videos are not comparing real situations with real access patterns. >no one I know is trying to build servers in rust instead of GO eventhough you can try to do that Well and I do know people doing just that, so agree to d…

I am not sure which part is "provably bullshit" in your opinion (hint: none of them), but techempower is a synthetic benchmark with isolated use cases and highly specialized code snippets. But to be fair, one should benchmark the performance of real projects against code writing speed. And take a look e.g. at this video of Primagean: link to this video Yes, it is pretty sure that with a very deep knowledge of the (Rust) language, profiling, and with lots of mental work one can write highly optimized code. But in 99.99% of the cases it is just simply not worth it. The Go runtime is awesome, actually the Java Virtual Machine is also awesome, and they are much easier to program than Rust. TL;DR: yes, A…

…k is somewhere else But the bottleneck was in Node.js is what was the point and proven in flamegraph and usecase. That's why a replacement with GO gave then 3x more performance with MUCH less memory. Check these legendary videos which literally compares GO vs Node.js in place where Node.js is strong at i.e. IO and see how far it falls behind GO [video and [video >Now in the last couple of years, that trend seems to be making a comeback, only this time it's about moving from Go to Rust. And I wonder the same, are they really hitting the limits of the Go runtime or is there some architectural issue they missed. Although this point is also answered in the above mentioned videos but stil…

BLAZINGLY FAST

On “Golang or NodeJS?”

Go is "blazingly fast", but rigid, with a kind of lame type system. JS & TS is much more expressive. I would vote for Node. (If you would look for additional language in pair with JS - compiled and statically typed - I would vote for Rust.)
