AstroSam demonstrates how he designed a custom 16-bit CPU, an emulator, an assembly language, and a compiler.

In this video, I decided to design my own CPU, an emulator for it, its own assembly language, and a compiled language. What people say. Recommended as an inspiring project showing how to build a custom CPU and toolchain from scratch.

On “If I were to create my own game console (handheld), how bare metal should I get?”

If you want to get into writing HDL for home projects, I think the best way would be to get an FPGA like someone has already mentioned. You can rapidly prototype different designs and fully realize your designs in hardware. There’s also emulators to design custom circuits with. For example, see this custom 16-bit CPU project on YouTube (although he really makes everything from scratch, so might be too complex for a first project): Custom 16-bit CPU Architecture Also, here’s a good discussion on FPGA project ideas: FPGA Project Ideas I’m not all too familiar with FPGAs myself honestly, but I’ve been interested in starting a home project myself. I’m thinking about getting either an IC…

On “Is learning multi threading practically possible using ARM CORTEX-M?”

He was being hyperbolic. However, it is true that people are building its own CPUs that can be programmed link to this video , which can run our own implementantion of a RTOS(it used to be a CS202 proyect), and then the magic would had to be on the scale of the legos -> transistors -> CPU. Theorically feasible
