anyone using dragvisuals.vim by Damian Conway? Wondering if anyone here is using this plugin - he demo'd it (see link below); it allows you to use visual mode, select a block of text and move it using the arrow keys like an object. I am using using vim8.1 and i cannot get it to work. Not sure if the code broke in Ver 8, or its me. Error I get is E117: unkown function: DVB\_Drag E15: Invalid expression: DVB\_Drag('down') https://github.com/thoughtstream/Damian-Conway-s-Vim-Setup [video

Can you filter thesaurus matches using a spellfile? I have an English spellfile which has ~500 common English and programming words in it. I call this spellfile "strict-English" and I use it to remind myself to write simple, common words in all my docstrings. If you work with non-native English speakers and want a way to train yourself to use simpler words in your docstrings, I highly recommend maintaining your own spellfile. By the way, this wasn't my idea. I got it from Damian Conway's "More Instantly Better Vim" video The problem is that sometimes I will see a docstring that I wrote and one word, "difficult", is underlined because it isn't in my "strict-English" spellfile. The same s…

Dragging text in Evil I had a plugin made by Damien Conway (dragvisuals.vim) demo I cannot live without it, and when I didn't find anything like it for emacs (there probably is tho), I decided I'll try implement it myself. I've only been using emacs for a couple of weeks and emacs lisp is _very_ new to me, so be gentle ;). I just wanted to know what your thoughts were. Note, this is not on par with drag visuals.vim yet. As of now the things I can do is: - Drag single characters in Normal mode left/right - Drag visual selection left/right (only useful with < one line selected) - Drag single lines up/down in Normal Mode The code: (defun hannesr/evil-normal-move-character-forward ()…

cursorcolumn questions about off on and what not. So is there a way to turn cursor column off if there is a character at that position? I'm pretty sure there is, Damian Conway kinda hints in his Instantly better vim talk, but my vim script is kinda lacking. Thanks in advance!

Installing plugins without a manager I'm trying to use the *dragvisuals.vim* script from Damian Conways presentation here and I can't seem to get it to work. I've tried placing it in both ***~/.vim/plugin/*** directories and ***~/.vim/bundle/dragvisuals/autoload/dragvisuals.vim*** and I can't seem to get it to work and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I typically use Vundle if that makes a differnce.

Toggling a function in VimScript? I picked up a nice snippet from Damian Conway link to this video that displays a column on the right hand side at the 81st column. I like the way it displays but I'm trying to figure out a way to toggle it and was wondering if someone could help me out. function! ShowColumn() highlight ColorColumn cterbg=magenta set colorcolumn=81 endfunction
