Ben Awad argues that algorithm-style coding interviews are an ineffective way to evaluate software engineering candidates for most tech companies.

Algorithm style coding interviews are very common in the tech industry, but they are a crappy method to evaluate candidates. Might work well for FANG (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google), but the rest of the tech companies are throwing away valid applicants. ---- Follow me online: voidpet.com/benawad #benawad

What people say. Recommended as a popular critique of the algorithmic interview process and its misalignment with day-to-day software development work.

On “Frontend interviews just suck...”

Nobody say you shouldn't do test in interviews but I think most test are shit. Why do you need to solve some problem with a complex algorithm with vanilla javascript (and you can't even use google in some companies which is stupid) in less than 1 hour when the job is designing apps with x framework?[ Why not just asking theorical questions and then making a test specific to that framework]? Very few companies do that. The interview system is complete bullshit.
