A demonstration of Conway's Game of Life running purely on x86 page faults without executing any CPU instructions.

Code+Slides at: github.com/jbangert/trapcc No instructions were dispatched in the making of this demo (except to copy memory to the framebuffer). All computation is done in the MMU. See the talk at Shmoocon

What people say. Highlighted as a mind-bending demonstration of Turing completeness achieved solely through memory management unit page faults.

On “It is well-known that the x86 instruction set is baroque, overcom- plicated, and redundantly redundant. We show just how much fluff it has by demonstrating that it remains Turing-complete when re- duced to just [the instruction mov] (warning PDF)”

You can remove all the instructions and still remain Turing-complete by performing Trap-oriented programming.
