On “Ray: A Distributed Framework for Emerging AI Applications”

Although it's early days, José Valim and some other folks are working on adding AI-related capabilities to Elixir and the (Erlang) BEAM. See "Introducing Nx" ( link to this video ) for an intro. Given that they already have a robust Actor model as a base to work from, it occurs to me that they may be able to use some of Ray's ideas as they go along...

On “Rust or Haskell?”

Check out Elixir. It’s a functional programming language which heavily uses immutability and message-passing concurrency to achieve fault tolerance and high scalability. Traditionally its ‘killer app’ has been the Phoenix Framework for making web applications, but the core team just released an exciting new ML library called Nx (Numerical Elixir). It uses Elixir’s metaprogramming abilities to compile Nx code into GPU code. Watch José Valim’s recent LambdaDays talk on it for more: link to this video
