A demonstration of interactive shell scripting in Clojure using Babashka, ImageMagick, and a REPL-driven workflow.

Quick demo of an Interactive Programming workflow using Babashka. I show a shell script that uses ImageMagick+Pango to compose an image with three logos and some styled text. I show how to work with the individual units of the script in the REPL, testing things out in small steps. Things that are very hard/impossible to do using old fashioned shell scripting languages like bash. What you need to try this out for yourself: * Babashka: babashka.org * A Clojure enabled editor (I use VS Code + Calva, naturally) * ImageMagick with Pango support * The examples folder from this repository: github.com/PEZ/magick-pango-babashka Getting ImageMagick + Pango on your machine can get daunting. That's why I created a Docker image for it. You can just use it the way shown in the video. If you go that route you also need Docker. Here's a blog post that sort of is the text version of this video: blog.agical.se/en/posts/imagemagick--x--pango--x--babashka--… Here's a hackish way to use that Docker image to give yourself Pango powered ImageMagick commands on your Mac (or whatever OS): blog.agical.se/en/posts/imagemagick-with-pango-on-macos-vent… See also @babashkatv for more, and more in depth, videos about Babashka and other Clojure things. --- Calva is an easy to use Clojure and ClojureScript IDE for Visual Studio Code. calva.io/ github.com/BetterThanTomorrow/calva marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=betterthantomorr…
