That talk looked at where C++ should go next. In the last decade, what progress has been made? This talk examines why C++ remains successful, where we still have gaps, and what gaps have widened. Will the next decade bring more of the same or something fundamentally different? --- Sean Parent Sean Parent is a principal scientist and software architect for Adobe’s digital imaging group. From 1988 through 1993 Sean worked at Apple, where he was part of the system software team that developed the technologies allowing Apple’s successful transition to PowerPC. --- YouTube Channel Managed By Digital Medium Ltd: events.digital-medium.co.uk --- #Programming #Cpp #CppNorth

What people say. Highly recommended as an eye-opening critique of C++ complexity that has convinced some developers to stick with or return to C.

On “Switch from C to C++?”

…mory management in C++ and could make decent code. When I needed console output, I never get used to cout, but used printf instead. It was a kind of awkward not using pure C++ and I know some coders just use C++, with a C style. A little over two years ago, I saw a video "Keynote: The Tragedy of C++, Acts One & Two - Sean Parent - CppNorth 2022" [video and realized, that I had only scratched the surface of C++ and my mindset would never fit the C++ potential. Had a few try's with C and was totally captivated and I'll never leave C. But I wrote a small relational CRM database with a GUI interface in C++ for my wife's business. Once in a while I have to maintain the database and it feels…

On “C as main language”

I'm mostly a hobby programmer, but learned C++ OOP, composition and so on and almost got a wierd kind of brainfire. I was in the middle of a chrono nightmare with gazillions of scope resolutions operators... Then I saw this video: Keynote: The Tragedy of C++, Acts One & Two - Sean Parent - CppNorth 2022 [video I did a small CRM database in C++ including a simple GUI interface, and have now made the big rewrite in C. It's much easier to navigate in the C code at least for me.

On “Tackle between C & C++. When to switch..? ( Pls help )”

…ut four years ago and learned OOP, composition, pointers and so on. I still have to do a very rare maintenance and I feel like a stranger. Maybe my code was poorly written and I never forget the gazillion ways of file handling and I felt, I would never be happy with C++. Keynote: The Tragedy of C++, Acts One & Two - Sean Parent - CppNorth 2022 [video For almost three year ago, I saw a video that finally convinced me to dump C++ and try C. We have been happily married since, that I have touch C every day. Now I have done the big rewrite using raylib graphics and have the CRM okay'ed. But whatever language, we still have data, conditions and loops...…

On “How different is C from C++”

A YT told a terror story about a "genius", that created a kaos in a C++ project, that lots of other developers inherited, without knowing it... But this video: Keynote: The Tragedy of C++, Acts One & Two - Sean Parent - CppNorth 2022 [video
