Robert Feranec and David Ruff explain how JTAG works, how it is used for boundary scan testing, and how to create a JTAG test.

What is JTAG, how it works, how it can be used for testing and how it can help you. What people say. Recommended for understanding the capabilities of JTAG and professional boundary scan solutions.

On “Tools for simulating microcontroller boards”

You can simulated this using JTAG if you really need. Not sure I would go that route, but I do not know your requirements. I just watched this video, and maybe you will like it link to this video He talks about JTAG and how to use that, including simulating any device

On “Can Boundary Scanning test for board faults?”

This is a long video, but I think it's helpful if you have a basic idea of what JTAG is capable of, but have never seen a professional boundary scan solution in action. link to this video
