A visual demonstration of the classic QBasic SORTDEMO.BAS program animating various sorting algorithms with sound.

Everyone has such fond memories of the games that came with QBASIC (Gorillas, Nibbles, etc.) that they forget the awesomeness of SORTDEMO.BAS. A shame that the sound sounds like a bomb full of angry cats being dropped onto an out-of-tune piano. Insertion sort Bubble sort Heap sort Exchange sort Shell sort Quicksort

What people say. Recommended as a nostalgic and clear visual demonstration of classic sorting algorithms like bubble sort and quicksort.

On “The Good Ol' Days of QBasic Nibbles”

Q(uick)Basic was my first programming language, and as others mentioned NIBBLES and GORILLAS.BAS were bundled with it. It also had the ability to compile down to an executable, which was fantastic. One bundled script I don't see mentioned yet was SORTDEMO.BAS - this is still my ideal for demonstrating different sorts visually: link to this video

I discovered sorting algorithms (including bubblesort) from SORTDEMO.BAS -- link to this video -- which came with QBasic.

Watching SORTDEMO.BAS at the formative age of ~11 baited me into programming. I recall messing around trying to make even faster versions. link to this video
