An in-depth lecture on the design, implementation, and mixed-criticality real-time scheduling extensions of the formally-proven seL4 microkernel.

Goes through some of the learnings from 25+ years of designing and implementing high-performance microkernels that had led to seL4 being the way it is.

On “Is there a formally-proven real-time language/computing env. or operating system?”

Look into seL4 and in particular, it's MCS (Mixed-Criticality Systems) extensions for real time. Further reading: Scheduling-Context Capabilities Mixed-Criticality Scheduling and Resource Sharing for High-Assurance Operating Systems Also a video series on Youtube: link to this video

On “Design Request: Priority, Schedule, Timing”

Might be worth looking at the Mixed Criticality Systems (MCS) extension to the seL4 Kernel, which provides support for hard-real-time, and is backed by proofs of correctness. MCS allows user-level scheduling with low-level control over CPU time, through use of unforgeable *capabilities* for time. Time guarantees are determined through a pessimistic worst-case-execution-time (WCET) measurement, and threads which do not use their full budget can donate it. While this doesn't provide a language-level paradigm for scheduling, it would be worth considering it as a target for a language which does, which might influence how you design the language to leverage these capabilities.
