Shawn Wildermuth demonstrates how to configure and use the new built-in bearer token support in .NET 8 Identity to secure APIs.

In .NET 8, Identity has gotten a big refresh. One of the more hidden features of this is being able to use Endpoints to manage Identity (including Login, Registration, etc.) .Let me show you how it works: You can hire me too! You can reach me at my new website: - shawn.wildermuth.com Introduction Creating the Project Registering with the Default Project Using an API Problem with Securing the API Adding Bearer Token Support Creating an API Policy Using ApiEndpoints Wrapping Up Example code: github.com/shawnwildermuth/codingshorts/tree/main/mapidentit… If you like this video, you might like other videos in my Instructional Videos: - youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtOvnDRdH12e3vOq4zvpI2cKsancIwMcP

What people say. Recommended as a helpful guide for understanding the authentication changes and bearer token support introduced in .NET 8.

On “.NET Identity Documentation has broken me”

I feel your pain, what helped me the most was Raw Coding's auth series then supplemented with these few videos for .net 8 changes: (Honestly cant remember which ones were truly useful) link to this video link to this video link to this video However they all expect you to use EF, which might not be what you want to do, then I can't help you. (Its really annoying to be forced into a seemingly unrelated technology) When you use the built in login endpoint pass in a query parameter useCookies=true or smth like that

On “.NET Identity Documentation has broken me”

I was experiencing simmilar problems as you describe until I understood that there exists this magic of ASP.NET Core Identity which offers a lot out of the box without any proper configurability. But then I found the Cookie Authentication hidden below that documentation and was happy implementing it by myself. As you are mentioning JWT, maybe this video helps for your specific use case: link to this video

On “Authentication Micro Service API using ASP.net Identity and JWT”

I think .NET 8 did a lot of work to improve JWT stuff, and that video is for .NET 7. So its probably worth reading up on the new changes. I see another video from that same guy for .NET 8 link to this video
