Photon of Scoopex demonstrates how to set up an assembler and write a basic Motorola 68000 assembly program for the Amiga.

These are the first steps - all you need to get (re?)started is at the dedicated site: coppershade.org/articles/More!/Downloads/ *NOTE* the Get Started with WinUAE link in the WinUAE box! Use the default Quickstart Config and check Chipset - Cycle-Exact to make the emulator behave like a real Amiga. If you have a favorite Assembler, you should have no trouble following the series! I recently made AsmTwo specifically to provide a stable and small Asm-One version that will work out of the box on anyone's Amiga, or emulator. "May the source be with you!" (c) Photon

What people say. Highly recommended as an excellent, accessible starting point for learning Amiga assembly and retro demoscene programming.

For Amiga demo programming with 68000 assembler, this video tutorial series is great as well: link to this video I wish I could send these back in time to my teenage self.

On “The Amiga Demoscene Mixtape Vol. 1 [video]”

Scoopex has a video series of Amiga demo programming starting all the way from the basics of using an assembler: link to this video I would have killed for this back when I had an A500. It seemed like dark magic and all I could find was a book on ASM game programming tricks, which was too advanced for me.

On “Getting started with bare-metal assembly”

I think the opposite is true because those machines were built around assembly programming. The hardware was essentially the software development framework. Check out this assembly programming series, it's less assembly code on the Amiga to get something on screen or getting mouse/keyboard input than with highlevel languages and APIs/frameworks today: link to this video

I found this Amiga Hardware Programming playlist by "Photon of Scoopex" quite nice (I was actually expecting that it's this one), it also jumps right into action by writing a little 'wait-for-left-mouse-button' 3-liner: link to this video

On “Ask HN: How many of you are consciously downsizing your devices/going retro?”

Reading this made me (very) sorely miss my A1200, which I used as my daily driver all the way up to 2003. I was shocked at how much difference in speed a 4MB Fast RAM expansion and 68881 FPU made. You might like Photon of Scoopex's Amiga Hardware Programming tutorial1, in which he creates an Amiga Demo using assembly from scratch in ASMOne/ASMTwo 1 link to this video

On “I like programming in C”

for assembly i highly recommend using an older platform like the c64 or amiga. There's a complete tetris game which you can follow along here and for the amiga i found the tutorial from scoopex(ah the good old times! :) very interesting. It's way more fun than just calling predefined functions in modern times imho.
