What people say. Recommended as an excellent overview of the various technologies associated with web development and how they fit together.

On “Lost in a sea of JS frameworks”

Node isn't a framework. It is a platform to run JavaScript on the server like other server languages (like Java, Ruby, Python, Ruby, etc.), although it is also used to perform development tasks (using Grunt or Gulp). Grunt is a "task runner." It helps to automate repetitive development tasks. Here is a **video** describing various web development technologies that should be **very** helpful to you.

On “What's the difference between Gulp.js, Grunt and Bower. (And which one should I be using)”

This **video** does a great job of laying out various web development technologies, and it even includes a **mindmap** that has links to videos describing many of these technologies in more detail.

On “Can someone explain to me the basics of modern day web application development?”

This **video** is an excellent description of the various technologies associated with web development. As far as text editors or IDEs, until you get a better idea of what you want to do, you might just want to go with something free, such as **Brackets** or **Notepad++**. The reason that I say wait on the text editor or IDE is because they tend to specialize somewhat depending on your main language(s).
