Tim King discusses the development of TRIPOS and how it became the foundation for AmigaDOS on the Amiga 1000.
The Amiga is one of my all time favourite computers and a chance encounter via the Museum of Computing, where I volunteer, offered the opportunity to interview Dr Tim King and his wife Jessica about their important contribution to the release of the ground breaking Amiga 1000 computer. Without the TRIPOS operating system the Amiga's launch would have been seriously delayed. I am very grateful to Tim and Jessica for allowing me to take up so much of their time on the day of the interview. This was my first multi-camera, multi-mic interview! I hope you enjoy this fascinating interview. I look forward to refurbishing the Amiga 1000 Tim donated to the Museum of Computing; subscribe and activate notifications to know about new videos as soon as I release them. ● Chapters: Intro TRIPOS and the Cambridge University years Motorola 68000 and the Bath University years Moving to Metacomco Amiga needs an operating system Amiga launch event Perihelion, Transputer and the Helios OS UK Online Consulting on the early Internet Venture capital technology assurance Providing rural broadband into retirement ● Amiga related questions from TDO followers Question from Pixelvixen (Twitter @future_saviors) Question from Pete (Twitter @RetroBC_Pete) Question from Tomas Kouba (Twitter @TomasKouba2) Question from Doug (Twitter @10MARC1) Question from polyp2000 (Twitter @polyp2000) Question from South West Amiga Group (Twitter @SouthWestAmiga) Question from Dale Lawson (Twitter @Hamrdeye) Question from Hoffman (Twitter @djh0ffman) Outro ● Support The Digital Orphanage: patreon.com/thedigitalorphanage ko-fi.com/thedigitalorphanage ● Follow The Digital Orphanage: facebook.com/thedigitalorph/ reddit.com/user/TheDigitalOrphanage twitter.com/TheDigitalOrph ● The Digital Orphanage YouTube channel: youtube.com/thedigitalorphanage ● Support The Museum of Computing: museumofcomputing.org.uk/ (Please use donate button on their page) ● Music in order of being played: Psychic Need (Chasms) ● Video related links Amiga Launch video - youtube.com/watch?v=o3x00Pbs2K8 Newtek Video Toaster Demo Reel - youtube.com/watch?v=seznQmDp2pU inmos Transputer promotioal video - youtube.com/watch?v=cdK3PXKvYgs #Amiga #AmigaDos #TRIPOSWhy it's here
