Alex Ellis and Alistair Hey demonstrate how to bootstrap a lightweight Kubernetes cluster on Raspberry Pi using k3s, Traefik, and OpenFaaS.
In this Traefik Online Meetup, Alex Ellis, Founder of OpenFaaS, and Alistair Hey, from the OpenFaaS community, will show you how to bootstrap a Kubernetes cluster the easy way. The session includes an overview of the OSS tooling, and how you can use each one. They’ll use Rancher’s K3s which has been adapted to run on embedded devices and at the edge. And, they'll show just how lightweight it is by installing everything on a Raspberry Pi. First, they get the cluster up using k3sup (ketchup), and install OpenFaaS, along with a custom microservice, and get a public IP address for the cluster so that Traefik (which is built-in) can start serving requests to the outside world. Watch the show and learn how to make your own emoji-voting app! Speakers: Alex Ellis, Founder OpenFaaS Ltd Alex is a respected expert on serverless and cloud native computing. He founded OpenFaaS, one of the most popular open-source serverless projects, where he has built the community via writing, speaking, and extensive personal engagement. As a consultant and CNCF Ambassador, he helps companies around the world build great developer experiences and navigate the cloud native landscape. Alistair Hey, Cloud Platform and DevOps at Heyal Solutions Ltd Alistair helps teams accelerate into the cloud and embrace the devops mindset through consultancy and strategic implementation services. He is a contributor to OpenFaaS and organizes non-profit conferences and events. He runs the CNCF Birmingham and Docker Birmingham meetups.
