Vipin Kizheppatt introduces the design of fully connected neural networks targeting FPGAs, analyzing performance and resource utilization.

#neuralNetwork #FPGA #Zynq #feedforward This tutorial introduces the design of fully connected neural networks (FCNN) targeting FPGAs. We analyze some of the thumb rules applied to get good performance and minimal resource utilization. We will be implementing a neural network targeting the MNIST data set. On “FPGA path for AI?”

Depends on what you actually mean by AI, or what branch of AI. The current AI trend for FPGAs right now is mostly Neural Networks and Deep Learning. Assuming you're concerned with NN and DL, this YouTube series might be a good starting point link to this video But before diving into AI for FPGA, you need to learn some basic digital design. You also need to learn verilog or VHDL to be able to start coding. I personally recommend VHDL. Search Nandland in Google and YouTube. Nandland website and YouTube channel are great for learning basic digital design and VHDL for beginners.

On “Has anyone in our group worked on Machine Learning projects using FPGA hardware?”

From my experience as hobbyist, working on ML with an FPGA can be quite challenging. However, FPGAs often function like MACs farms, referred to as a Systolic Array, especially for inference purposes over 8-bit integers. I've been working on one in my free time for two years now. My architecture is quite unique, enabling configurable computation modes for both matrix multiplication and convolution, and it includes activation functions too. Also, I've created my instruction set for it. Frankly, this kind of work must be good at HDL and FW development to maximize throughput of custom hardware. But it is good to try tho.tutorials maybe check this link and decide. Have fun with your project…
