Clayton Christensen applies business management theories to personal life, arguing that career success should not be the sole measure of fulfillment.

"It's actually really important that you succeed at what you're succeeding at, but that isn't going to be the measure of your life." Too often, we measure success in life against the progress we make in our careers. But how can we ensure we're not straying from our values as humans along the way? Clayton Christensen, Harvard Business School professor and world-renowned innovation guru, examines the daily decisions that define our lives and encourages all of us to think about what is truly important. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

On “How to be mediocre and be happy with yourself”

link to this video How Will You Measure Your Life? Clay Christensen at TEDxBoston This is a very inspiring presentation, especially towards the end. The take away is that it's not important how high you went up a certain hierarchy or how much money you have in the bank. The important question is what did you do with your life to make other people's lives better? When you're put in certain situations that touch other people's lives, it's for a reason, and your life will be measured by how you did in those situations.

On “Harvard Diploma for Sale”

Clay Christensen used to tell a story about the atmosphere at HBS reunions over time. It sounds like this person learned early on the lesson that HBS graduates learn by their 25th reunion. Edit: link to this video

On “Care Doesn't Scale”

This reminds me of Clay Christensen's talk: How Will You Measure Your Life?0 He compares how most people define success by how high up the hierarchy they get, against the individual effort of making a positive impact on the people around you. 0 link to this video
