Joachim Breitner demonstrates how to rewrite the zip function using hyperfunctions and analyzes its impact on the Haskell heap.

Daniel Díaz (twitter.com/DiazCarrete/status/1373296311391379461) asked for an episode where we look at what is happing on the heap with the zip function, both regular and when implemented as two right folds, using (pause for effect) hyperfunctions! He pointed me to a Blog post by Oisín Kidney (doisinkidney.com/posts/2021-03-14-hyperfunctions.html) and here we are: We look at the normal zip, then rewrite it to use hyperfunctions, and look at the heap again (and find that it looks rather similar). Want more stuff like this? Let me know what you want to hear about! Code at gist.github.com/nomeata/b9d3e18a49f0c320c0d1f0e7b72a9c73

What people say. Recommended as an interesting exploration of Haskell heap behavior and hyperfunctions.
