Dave Plummer explains the technical details of the CrowdStrike IT outage, focusing on kernel-mode drivers and why they can crash Windows.

Dave Plummer explains the Crowdstrike IT outage, focusing in on its role as a kernel mode driver. For my book on the spectrum, see: amzn.to/3XLJ8kY Get the shirt: amzn.to/4bRUgAn Follow me for updates! Twitter: @davepl1968 davepl1968 Facebook: fb.com/davepl Opinions are mine only, not a spokesperson! I should add that I don't know if the channel definition update files were privately signed or not; what I meant is that I presume they do not go through the WHQL signing process. But even if they do, we've learned that trusting their content (which was all zeros in this case) didn't go well.

What people say. Recommended as an excellent technical explanation of the CrowdStrike failure by a former Windows developer.

Well in link to this video that was posted above, are good explanation They loaded code dynamically and this file with code was all zeroes which they didn't check So there is no way rust will help here That modern developers community... probably they better should make coffee for engineers

On “How is this even possible?”

Calling it a worldwide internet outage is just media clickbait. Please watch this at least link to this video The short version is yes, it was a significant outage of many computers systems. That's because they use the CrowdStrike security software, which pushed an untested update that caused any computer running it to crash.
