On “How would YOU design fast IPC in a microkernel?”

I'm personally implementing something like this: [video Instead of context switching to perform IPC, a thread can flow across address spaces to perform synchronous invocation akin to an RPC scheme (passing through the register set). This has some nice properties such as auto-scaling (since the calling thread is the one doing the work), doesn't involve the scheduler, doesn't have to mess around with thread priorities and budget, and since it doesn't involve the scheduler, your kernel actually doesn't need a scheduler to begin with since it can be implemented in user space using this IPC mechanism.
